The Altkirch (also: Heidenkirche ) is a church ruin in Reichshoffen ( Département Bas-Rhin ) in France . The ruin has been classified as a monument historique since 1990 .

history

The Altkirch is the ruin of a Gothic choir tower church from the 13th century, from which the basement of the tower with the choir has been preserved. The outlines of the nave were bricked up after excavations. At the church there was a leprosarium , which was probably built around 1350 during a great plague epidemic in Alsace, as it was conveniently located outside the town of Reichshoffen.
