Old crystalline

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In European geology, crystalline rocks are known as old crystalline , which were mainly formed in the Variscan era (middle Paleozoic ).

In Central Europe - depending on the region - outside the Alps, these are predominantly Variscan (partly Cambrian) granites , granodiorites and gneisses , in the Bohemian masses also granulite ; furthermore migmatites , orthoseries, paraseries with amphibolites , in the Eastern Alps series from granites to orthogneiss , locally also phyllites and mica schists as well as limestone marble.
