Cemetery cross on the Altmannsdorf cemetery

The Altmannsdorfer Friedhof is a municipal cemetery in the 12th district of Meidling in Vienna . It is located at Stüber-Gunther-Gasse 1.

history

In 1783 the place Altmannsdorf received its own parish after it had previously belonged to the parish Atzgersdorf . The local judge Josef Ranninger provided a house field on which the newly created Altmannsdorf cemetery was inaugurated on July 28, 1784 by the first Altmannsdorf pastor Johann Baptist Eslnigg. In the years 1835, 1865 and 1878 the cemetery was expanded slightly. After the original cemetery cross fell into disrepair in 1846, the new cross that still exists today was erected in 1853.

description

The small former local cemetery of the Viennese suburb Altmannsdorf is today one of four urban cemeteries in the 12th district of Meidling, which is still occupied today. The most outstanding structure of the cemetery, besides the funeral hall and the cemetery office, is the mausoleum of the Hoffmann, von Hoffinger and Remekhazy families from 1846, which is located in the center of the cemetery. The Altmannsdorf estate owner Johann Hoffmann, his son-in-law, the writer Johann von Hoffinger and his wife, the writer Josefine von Hoffinger, are buried there. In front of it are the cemetery cross and a memorial stone from the Vienna men's choir and the Altmannsdorf volunteer fire brigade for those who died in the world wars. Other important local personalities who were buried here are Johann Baptist Weber (1776–1848), the co-founder of the First Austrian Spar-Casse , Johann Sageder, the owner of the manorial estate Altmannsdorf and the largest dairy in Vienna and his wife Anna Sageder Benefactress of the place, Lorenz Siller, dairy owner and brother-in-law of Johann Sageder and the Siller family. Allegedly, two French soldiers are also said to be buried in the cemetery, who according to the death register died in 1809 in what was then the French military hospital in Altmannsdorf.
