description

The small farming village, which is a listed building as an ensemble, is secluded in the meadow slopes of the Wendelstein area that taper to the north . Its history is of medieval origin. It consists of five old farm properties and a few smaller houses as well as a chapel. Among the Einfirsthöfe, which are mostly facing east, the Moarhof from 1667 is particularly notable for its construction and its fresco decorations. The other courtyards and houses, which also include barns and Zuhäuser, are mostly in the 19th and 20th centuries. Century and usually preserve the alpine character of the place. The properties are picturesquely embedded in orchards, the area around Feilnbach is an old fruit-growing area . The charming townscape attracted artists several times at the beginning of the century and prompted the painters Hermann Rothenbucher and Franz Berthold-Buchenau to settle in Altofing.
