Altrichthys is a three species of damselfish thatoccursin the tropical western Pacific near the Philippines .
features
Altrichthys species are relatively high back, heavily flattened on the sides and are 6.5 to 7.5 cm long. They are largely monochrome, gray, greenish or bluish in color. The edges of the dorsal and caudal fin can be blackish or golden yellow in color.
- Fin formula : Dorsal XIII – XIV / 13–14, Anale II / 14–15.
Way of life
Altrichthys species live on coral reefs in relatively shallow water and feed on plankton. Like all damselfish they are substrate spawners and both parents care for and protect their eggs. Since a pelagic larval stage is absent in this genus and juveniles were observed in their parents' coral hive in their early stages of life, it is assumed that in the Altrichthys species, similar to the swallowtail damselfish ( Acanthochromis polyacanthus ), the brood care behavior of the parent animals after hatching Young fish does not go out, but they continue to do so and guard and protect their young for some time after hatching.
