Franz Wilhelm Leuteritz (born September 11, 1817 in Wechselburg ; † October 8, 1902 in Dresden ) was a German landscape painter, trained as an autodidact .

Franz Wilhelm Leuteritz was born as the seventh child of a master rope maker. In 1831 he began a four-year apprenticeship as a belt maker and began to work in this profession.

He dreamed of becoming a painter. There is no information about his education, it is possible that he learned the art of painting as an autodidact or from an unnamed painter. It was not until October 1851, at the age of 34, that he showed ten of his works for the first time at the Rochlitz industrial exhibition.

He married Julia Agnes Rottenberger in 1854 and moved from Wechselburg to Dresden in 1856. He worked in Dresden until about 1865, after which he went on study trips to Bavaria , Austria , Switzerland and Italy until 1879 . Later he worked mostly in Saxon Switzerland . With his city views he made a valuable contribution to the local history of Saxony.
