Kaunas old town
The Old Town Kaunas is the historic town of Kaunas , the second largest city in Lithuania . It is located east of the confluence of the Nemunas and Neris rivers , not far from Santakos Park . It has an area of 144 hectares and is an urban monument .
The Peter and Paul Cathedral Kaunas , the Jesuit Church Kaunas and the historic Kaunas Town Hall , which is colloquially known as the “White Swan” due to its tall, white shape and used as a registry office (“Wedding Palace”) , are located on the main square, the Rathausplatz .
Also not far from the town hall square are the ruins of Kaunas Castle and St. George's Church on the Neris . The Perkūnas House, a late Gothic town house, in which the students of the nearby Jesuit grammar school organize tours during the summer , is located in a side street of the Town Hall Square facing the Memel .
