View into the old town street of Eppingen

The Altstadtstraße is a street in Eppingen , a town in the district of Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg , which is located within the former city fortifications and the area of which is under monument protection as part of the overall complex (see “Eppingen Monument Preservation Value Plan”).

History and course

The Altstadtstraße is a main connecting road through the old town, which was formerly also called Stadtgasse . Due to the city expansion in the 19th and 20th centuries, it is now only a local access road, which leads from the main intersection at Gasthaus Rößle in a straight line past the Pfeifferturm , a tower of the former city fortifications, to the east and at the intersection with Zunfthausgasse to the north extended to the old town hall square. After the Old University , the street narrows slightly and curves northwards to exit the old town via the former lower gate. Since the end of the 18th century, national traffic has shifted to Rappenauer Straße and thus to instead of through the old town.

Development

From the Pfeifferturm to the Linsenviertel , the Altstadtstraße consists of a high-quality development with mainly three-story half - timbered houses from the late Middle Ages and the early modern period . On the south side of the western part there is a largely closed building line that can be described as the backbone of the Hohenstaufen urban development. The development of the 15th to 18th centuries shows the prosperous development of the old town of Eppingen.

Along the Altstadtstraße in Eppingen there are z. B. the following listed buildings (from west to east):
