The Alvand-class is a frigate - class of the Iranian Navy . The ships were built in Great Britain for Iran in the late 1960s.
description
The main task of the ships is anti -submarine defense and the fight against surface ships . The original armament consisted of Sea-killer - anti-ship missiles , Sea-Cat -Flugabwehrraketen, a depth charge launchers and various gun.
Shortly before the Iranian revolution, the ships were overhauled and then renamed by the new Iranian leadership. In the 1990s, the armament of the ships was brought up to date.
Iran developed the Moudsch class from the Alvand class .

Calls
The ships took part in the so-called tank war against Iraq .
The Sahand was sunk by the US Navy as part of Operation Praying Mantis on April 19, 1988.
