The Moudsch class ( transliteration Mouǧ; "cloud") is a Frigates - class of the Iranian Navy . The ships are based on the Alvand class built in Great Britain for Iran in the late 1960s .

The main task of the ships, which have been in service with the Iranian Navy since 2010, is anti -submarine defense and the fight against surface ships . The relatively light ships of this class all have a helicopter deck, but no hangar. According to state media reports, the "Sahand" is said to have stealth properties. The use of an unspecified “special technology” means that the frigate cannot be detected by radar systems.

Originally three units were in service with the Iranian Navy - both in the Persian Gulf and in the Caspian Sea . The Jamaran and Sahand are in action, the Damavand sank on Iran's Caspise coast in January 2018. The construction of further units is planned or is already being carried out.
