Álvaro Rojas

Álvaro Manuel Rojas Marín (born May 9, 1953 ) is a Chilean politician and diplomat .

Life

He studied veterinary medicine and received his doctorate in agricultural economics from the Technical University of Munich . From 1979 to 1982 he was a fellow of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation . This was followed by a position as a consultant for CEPAL and FAO . Rojas became a professor of rural development, macroeconomics and agriculture at the Universidad de Talca , where he was rector from 1991 to 2006. At the same time he was chairman of the Council for Agricultural Innovation of the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture from 1994 to 1997 and coordinator of the program for scientific cooperation between Chile and Germany in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1997 to 2000. From 2002 to 2004 he was chairman of the university rectors' council. In 2006 Rojas became Chilean Minister of Agriculture. He held the office until January 2008. He then went as an ambassador to the Chilean Embassy in Berlin by Germany . In February 2010 he returned to Chile and was rector in Talca . He belongs to the Partido Demócrata Cristiano de Chile party .
