Shōsetsuka ni Narō ( 小説家 に な ろ う Let's Become a Novelist ) is a Japanese online platform on which registered users can upload and read their own light novels free of charge. The website was published on April 2, 2004 by Yusuke Umezaki . Syosetu has 800,000 active members and an online catalog of 400,000 web novels. The site has a billion page views a month.
More than a hundred light novel series that were first published on Shosetsuka ni Narō were later licensed by publishers and released on a physical level. Two of the best-known works that first appeared on the online platform are Log Horizon and Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei , which were later licensed by Enterbrain and ASCII Media Works and published as a light novel series.
On July 30, 2014, the publisher Futabasha started the light novel imprint Monster Bunko , which exclusively publishes various works that were previously published on Shosetsuka ni Naro.
