Alvega

Alvega is a village and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district of Abrantes in the Santarém district . It is 39  m above sea level on the left bank of the Tagus River .

The Freguesia Alvega had an area of ​​55.3 km² and 1502 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011)

history

During Roman times the place was called Aritium Vetus . From here Roman roads led to Lisbon , Mérida and Salamanca .

An inscription in a stone reports that on May 11, 37 AD, the population of the settlement took the so-called imperial oath on the new Princeps Caligula .

On September 29, 2013, the Freguesias Alvega and Concavada were merged to form the new Freguesia União das Freguesias de Alvega e Concavada .

Buildings

The most striking building in the village of Alvega is the Solar de Alvega , a mansion that was built in the 17th century by Count Caldeira de Mendanha and is now a hotel. The São Pedro Church and the Casa Branca Chapel are also located here .

The Ponte Rodo-Ferroviária de Alvega is a bridge over the Tagus from 1881 between Alvega and Mouriscas .

Flag of Alvega

The coat of arms consists of a gold shield with a black boat with silver decorations. To the left and right of the boat are two red Doric columns . The brick, silver crown with three towers distinguishes Alvega as Aldeia , a village with a few hundred inhabitants.

According to the flag law , the flag of Alvega is therefore one color. It's a blue flag with the municipality's coat of arms in the center.
