Alwin Hammers

Alwin J. Hammers (born November 2, 1942 in Bitburg , actually Alwin Hammel ) was a professor of pastoral psychology at the Episcopal Seminary in Trier and a teaching psychotherapist .

Life

Hammers grew up in Mürlenbach in the Eifel. After graduating from high school, he entered the seminary in Trier and studied philosophy and theology there. While studying outside in Munich, he met his current wife, with whom he has two children. He then decided to leave the seminary and study psychology alongside theology.

For decades, Hammers was involved in the pastoral psychological training of candidates for priesthood in the diocese of Trier at the local seminary. Hammers came under fire for a study he carried out in 1997, according to which around 25% of all Catholic priests were homosexual.

He is u. a. also chairman of the tennis department of Trimmelter SV Trier. Hammers was solemnly retired on November 21, 2007.
