The house at 31 Charlottentor is a Grade II listed building in the Magdeburg district Cracau in Saxony-Anhalt . A youth and social center is housed in the building.

location

It is located in the north of the district, right on the border with the Brückfeld district . The Biederitz-Magdeburg-Buckau railway ran north of the building and was converted into a cycle path after it was closed.

Architecture and history

The elongated, functionally designed brick building was built between 1880 and 1900 as car house number 13 of the former artillery depot. The simple two-story house was built from red bricks. Structuring strips were incorporated into the facade with yellow clinker bricks. As a further structuring element, there are pilaster strips and arched friezes. The windows are designed as segmental arches. At the western and eastern ends there are head risalites . The house is covered by a flat roof .

The building is listed as a shed in the local register of monuments under registration number 094 76872.

The building is considered a structural remainder of the military use that originally dominated the surrounding area of ​​the so-called Friedrichstadt in the course of the eastern front of the Magdeburg Fortress . It was created in the last phase of the military use of the fortress and is considered to be significant in terms of military and urban history. In connection with this building, the barracks that have been preserved in the neighborhood today, but have been converted, can be seen.

Currently (as of 2016) the building is used as a youth and social center "Mother Teresa" operated by Caritas .
