At the Waatsack
Am Waatsack or Waatsack is a restaurant in the city center of Bergisch Gladbach in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .
history
The Waatsack at Hauptstraße 273 is one of the few historical buildings in typical Bergisch style that has been preserved in the city center to this day. It was built in 1792 as a half-timbered house with a half- hip roof . After 1900 it was sold. The name Waatsack possibly goes back to its elevated position a little above the formerly swampy and flood- shaped Strundauu . The Middle High German word “Wuorde” may indicate a slightly raised property; the addition “ack” can be interpreted as a corner. Am Waatsack would therefore be called At the raised corner . The currently covered oak beam above the entrance still bears the inscription:
“Ano 1792 D: 9 in AuG, the married people Peter Kierdorff and Maria Christina Lommerzens built this house. God forbid it for all evil. "
monument
The restaurant Am Waatsack is registered as monument no. 103 in the list of architectural monuments in Bergisch Gladbach .
