Amado Bagatsing

Amado Sevilla Bagatsing is a Filipino politician of the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP), after which the Lakas-CMD (Lakas-Kampi) and most recently the Kabalikat ng Bayan sa Kaunalaran (KABAKA) of 1987 to 1998 a member of the House of Representatives was and has been part of it again since 2007.

Life

Bagatsing is a son of the politician Ramon Bagatsing , who was also a member of the House of Representatives between 1957 and 1965 and again from 1969 to 1972, and then Mayor of Manila between 1972 and 1986 . After attending school, he began studying business administration at the University of Manila in 1964, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science (BS Business Administration).

In the elections on May 11, 1987 , Bagatsing was elected for the first time as a member of the House of Representatives for the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) and, after being re-elected in the elections on May 11, 1992 and May 8, 1995, he represented until the 5. June 1998 the constituency of Manila 5th District . In 2002 he became Executive Director of the Housing and Urban Development Council (HUDCC ) and remained in this post until 2007.

In the elections on May 14, 2007 , Bagatsing was re-elected to the House of Representatives for the Lakas Democratic Cong Kristiyano at Muslim (Lakas-Kampi) and has since again represented the constituency of Manila 5th District . In the elections on May 10, 2010 , he was re-elected with 70,852 votes (59.04 percent) and was able to prevail against the candidate of the Nacionalista Party (NP), Joey Hizon, who received 47,902 votes (39.92 percent) .

He was re-elected in the May 13, 2013 elections, this time running for the Kabalikat ng Bayan sa Kaunalaran (KABAKA). In the current 16th legislative period , which runs from 2013 to 2016  , he is chairman of the Parliament's Committee for Ecology . He is responsible for all matters that are directly and fundamentally concerned with the eco system including the control of environmental pollution.

Since Bagatsing has reached the maximum consecutive eligibility of nine years, he will not be allowed to run again in the upcoming elections on May 9, 2016 , and will therefore be eliminated from the House of Representatives. Instead, he is running for the office of Mayor of Manila.

His younger brother, Ramon S. Bagatsing, Jr., was also a member of the House of Representatives from 1987 to 1998, during which time he represented the Manila 4th District constituency . His nephew is the film actor Raymond Bagatsing .
