The Amalgamated Drawing Office was the development and construction division of the British Motor Corporation . Since the early 1950s, the projects processed there have been given the designation "ADO" with a consecutive number. Some of them later stood for models produced in series.

Contrary to popular belief, “ADO” does not stand for “Austin Drawing Office”.

Roy Haynes, Alec Issigonis and Harris Mann worked here, among others .

ADO project numbers

LC / LM codes

After the various reorganizations at BMC and the creation of the “Leyland Cars” division of the British Leyland group, the codes were changed to LC in the mid-1970s. The naming system was changed to the LM (Light Medium) codes when Rovers (Specialist Division) SD codes were added.

Other codes

The branch in Australia used the code "YD" from 1962 to name their projects.
