Amanda Berenguer
Amanda Berenguer (born June 24, 1921 in Montevideo , Uruguay , † July 13, 2010 ) was a Uruguayan writer .
Berenguer was married to José Pedro Díaz . From 1945 she and her husband managed the La Galatea publishing house . In 1968 she was one of the founders of Maldoror magazine .
Berenguer, who belonged to the Generación del 45 and who as a member of the Academia Nacional de Letras del Uruguay was awarded the title Académica de Honor at the age of 85 , published numerous poetic works. In 1940 she began writing with A través de los tiempos que llevan a la gran calma . For El río , published in 1952 , she received First Prize from the Ministerio de Instrucción Pública . For her work La dama de Elche , first published in Madrid in 1987 and then in Montevideo in 1990 , she was awarded the First Prize of the Intendencia Municipal of Montevideo as well as that of the Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) in 1987 . It was also awarded by the Fundación Banco Exterior de España and finally received the Premio Bartolomé Hidalgó as part of the second edition . Even Los Signos sobre la mesa brought her in 1987 with the Premio Reencuentro the University of the Republic a price one. In 2001 she was the only invited representative of Uruguay to take part in a meeting of international poetry held in Chile, at which authors such as Ernesto Cardenal , Nicanor Parra , Juan Gelman , Adrianne Rich and Raúl Zurita were present. The following year she received the B'nai B'rith Golden Candlestick . Berenguer's works have been translated into English, Italian, French and Portuguese.
