Amanda Pilke (born May 2, 1990 in Joensuu , North Karelia ) is a Finnish actress .

Life

Amanda Pilke became known through her first film, the Finnish crook comedy Helmiä ja sikoja (Pearls and Pigs) from 2003 about four brothers and their half-sister. While the father of the four brothers is in prison after an amateur robbery, they learn that he has another daughter who suddenly stands at the door and is supposed to live with them. In order to pay off the debts accumulated by various badly executed crooks, they come up with the idea of registering Saara, her 12-year-old half-sister, in a regional talent show. Saara can sing excellently, but is so shy that she can barely make a note in front of an audience. The brothers give her special training, get help from a professional singer and so Saara makes it to the next round. With the prospect of a prize, the girl becomes interesting again for her mother too. Now the brothers have to come up with something to not only collect the profit, but also to keep it.

The title with which Saara competes in the final was recorded for the film by Siiri Nordin : "Sydämeni osuman sai" is a cover version of "Something's gotten hold of my heart" by Gene Pitney . The songs during Saara's performances are not sung by Amanda Pilke herself, but by Elisabeth Ehrnrooth.

She had the next big role in 2009 in Kielletty Hedelmä (Forbidden Fruit) , a film about the life of young people in the conflict between traditional religion and modern way of life. Maria (Amanda Pilke) and Raakel (Marjut Maristo) live in the country in a very strict Laestadian community. The Bible interprets these in a fundamentalist way; Contraceptives, alcohol, television, modern music and sex before marriage are forbidden - as is told in the opening credits of the film. While Maria would like to get to know life and try at least one summer, which is not allowed, Raakel has submitted to her predetermined life. When Maria escapes from the community to Helsinki , Raakel promises the pastor and other men of the community to take care of Maria and follows her as a guardian angel. The situation turns: Maria is full of remorse and is afraid of being burned in hell after trying music, parties, alcohol and, above all, sex. She drives with Raakel to the annual Laestadian summer meeting to seek forgiveness and eventually returns to the community. Raakel also returns, but the doubt about the correctness of the Laestadian way of life gnaws at her. After all, it is she who turns her back on the community.

The film and the leading actresses won several awards at smaller film festivals, including the Golden Dolphin of the Tróia International Film Festival .
