Amaranth Order

The Amaranten Order , also the Order of the Amarante , was a Swedish knightly order . The founder was Queen Christina of Sweden , the year of the foundation was 1653. The order was established in honor and in memory of her meetings with the Spanish ambassador Don Antonio Pimentel. He was also the first to receive the award. In other literature the order is limited to 15 knights and 15 ladies and the Spanish envoy is named Don Pimantelli. The order was supposed to commemorate the common meal with the queen at an Amarante water mill. The single knights to be honored had to swear to remain unmarried. Married couples had to forego remarriage when their wife died. In 1656 the order expired.

Order decoration

The order decoration consisted of a gold enamelled golden laurel wreath with two interlaced letters "A". The decoration was surrounded by a blue ribbon with the motto “ Dolce nella memoria ” embroidered in gold . It can be translated as "Pleasant in memory". The motto of the order given in other literature was: Semper idem.

Ribbon

The decoration was carried on a fiery red ribbon .
