ewl energie wasser luzern is an energy service company based in the city of Lucerne. The offers include electricity , natural gas , heat , water , telecommunications , energy services and electrical installations. The company emerged in 2001 from the merger of various municipal companies in the form of a stock corporation and is wholly owned by the City of Lucerne . electricity
As an electricity supplier, ewl supplies the city of Lucerne and Schwarzenberg, parts of Kriens, Littau and Malters with a total of 671 GWh of electricity per year. Most of this is obtained from power plants in which ewl is involved. Around a quarter of the electricity is produced in the two own hydropower plants Obermatt and Arni near Engelberg.
water
ewl supplies the city of Lucerne and resellers in the agglomeration with drinking water . This comes from the springs on the north slope of Pilatus , from groundwater from the valley of the Kleine Emme in Littau and Malters as well as from Lake Lucerne . In 2019, the company sold a total of 10.2 million m³ of water through its 220-kilometer network.
natural gas
ewl supplies customers in the city of Lucerne, Horw, Kriens, Littau, Ebikon and Rothenburg via its 404 kilometer network. Through its subsidiary Erdgas Zentralschweiz AG, ewl supplies other municipalities in Central Switzerland with around 2,520 GWh of natural gas. This means that natural gas now covers the majority of the total energy demand in Lucerne and the surrounding area.
warmth
In the area of heating technology, ewl is active as a heat supplier (around 137 GWh of heat in 2019 ) and as a contractor and takes on the operation and maintenance of heating and cooling systems for its customers.
telecommunications
In the telecommunications sector , the company has a fiber optic network of around 1,370 kilometers, which was created in cooperation with Swisscom.
