Amaravati Buddhist Monastery

Amaravati is a Buddhist monastery and meditation center in Great Gaddesden, north of Berkhamsted ( Hertfordshire ). It was founded in 1983 by the English Sangha Trust together with Ajahn Sumedho , who is abbot there .

The facility was previously a school and previously Army property before being bought from Buckinghamshire County Council .

The morning meditation begins at 5:00 a.m. After 12:00 p.m. no more food will be served. There are three- and ten-day retreats , but primarily the monastery is the home of its residents.
