Amarok is an EP of the German extreme metal project Nargaroth released by No Colors Records in 2000 . According to his own statement, it is not a sound carrier with new material, but older material from the demo times, which is now being published for the first time. Kanwulf himself states that it was “from today's perspective a release that is not absolutely necessary” and that some songs should have been better integrated into a concept album, “which would have made them more effective and would not have escaped attention on a patchwork release, which should be given to them ”.

The cover itself shows Kanwulf with a burning T-shirt on a stick, but the wrong picture was used as the cover when it was pressed. The picture actually intended as a cover - which contains a similar motif, on which one can better recognize Kanwulf's face - can be found on the back of the booklet.

content

The song Herbstleyd is an alternative version that comes from the test version and differs from the version on the Herbstleyd album mainly in that the song starts immediately and does not contain an intro with a female voice. Black Spell of Destruction is a cover version of the Norwegian one-man project Burzum , with which Kanwulf wants to express his feeling of deep connection to Varg Vikernes . Kanwulf begins the song with a scream that is unusually high and loud for him, which is not present on the original von Burzum.

Shall We Begin and Into the Void are from the Herbstleyd demo and were only remastered for release . The last two songs are stated to be previously unreleased old studio tracks dedicated to all true Nargaroth fans. In As the Stars Took Me with 'Em it is also stated that the song is the second part of (Escape) Through the Gates to the Stars from the Orke demo.

Thematically the material corresponds to the Herbstleyd album; the song Shall We Begin is a glorification of Black Metal , which is expressed in sentences like "Black Metal will be the emperor of human fears" or "Shall we begin that Black Metal rules the earth". The second Amarok part, on the other hand, contains - like the first - a narrated story that begins with a woman who came from the stars and is similar in nature to a fairy tale . In the first five minutes, the accompanying music is therefore quieter and more melodic, and wolf howls can be heard in the background in some places. In contrast to the first part, however, the plot is not read out, this time the beginning of the song is purely instrumental except for a few words at the beginning, the text that follows on Kanwulf's singing is not printed any further and whistling sounds can be heard at the end . The third and last part of the Amarok cycle can be found a year later on the album Black Metal ist Krieg .
