The Amazon fisherman ( Chloroceryle amazona ) is a kingfisher of the Neotropics .
features
The Amazon fisherman has the typical kingfisher shape with a short tail and long beak. The upper side is colored metallic green, the neck and throat are white. The white belly has green dashes on the flanks. The male's breast is maroon and the female's chest is white with green spots on the side. In contrast to the similar green fisherman , the Amazon fisherman has no white markings on the wing. The bird's call is a sharp KyeKyekyekyek that decreases in pitch and volume.

The distribution area of the Amazon fisherman extends from southern Mexico to northern Argentina . Reports of sightings in Trinidad are likely based on confusion.
Reproduction
The bird digs a tube up to 1.6 m long with a diameter of 10 cm in embankments. The female lays three to four white eggs.
