The green fisherman ( Chloroceryle americana ) is an American kingfisher from the genus of the same name, the green fisherman ( Chloroceryle ).
features
The 27 g heavy green fisherman is 19 cm long. Green on top with white spots on the tail and wings and a white collar around the neck. The male has a white underside with a broad chestnut-brown chest band and some green spots on the flanks. The dirty-white underside of the female has two green bands that extend to the green spots on the flanks.
The subspecies C. a. Found in Trinidad and Tobago . croteta has a larger beak than mainland populations.
Occurrence
The distribution area of the green fish stretches from southern Texas through Central and South America to central Argentina . He lives in forests along rivers.

The green fisherman hunts for fish and aquatic insects from a low branch.
Reproduction
The female lays three to four eggs in a nest cavity up to one meter long.
Danger
The species is considered harmless due to its large distribution area, it is classified by the IUCN as (= least concern - not endangered).
Subspecies
So far, five subspecies are known:
- Chloroceryle americana hachisukai ( Laubmann , 1941) - This subspecies is found in the south-central area of the United States and northwestern Mexico .
- Chloroceryle americana septentrionalis ( Sharpe , 1892) - This subspecies is distributed in south-central Texas and eastern Mexico south to northern Colombia and western Venezuela .
- Chloroceryle americana americana ( Gmelin, JF , 1788) - The nominate form is common in South America east of the Andes from Venezuela to northeast Bolivia , and north and central Brazil and Trinidad and Tobago .
- Chloroceryle americana mathewsii Laubmann , 1927 - This subspecies occurs in southern Brazil, southern Bolivia, and northern Argentina .
- Chloroceryle americana cabanisii ( Tschudi , 1846) - This subspecies is distributed from Colombia to Chile west of the Andes.
