Ambeon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ambeon is a music project by Dutch rock musician and composer Arjen Lucassen , which was originally intended to be a purely instrumental album based on elements, chords and melodies of existing Ayreon songs. The name Ambeon is made up of Ambient and Ayreon .

While at work, Lucassen received a demo tape from 14-year-old Astrid van der Veen ( February 26, 1986 in Emmeloord ). He was so overwhelmed that he threw the instrumental concept overboard and hired her as a lyricist and singer for two Ambeon songs. The collaboration went extremely well and Lucassen was so enthusiastic about the result that Astrid van der Veen became an integral part of Ambeon. In the end only two of the ten songs remained instrumental. It is not yet clear whether there will be a second album.

Ayreon fans will immediately recognize the origin of some numbers. For example, the basics of “Back on Planet Earth” (Ayreon's album “Actual Fantasy”) became the completely different “Ashes” . The music is very synthesizer- heavy, mixed with individual, deep electric guitar parts. Lucassen and van der Veen have created a bridge between ambient , ethno and progressive rock .
