Amber Moon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amber Moon is a cocktail that Tabasco sauce , raw eggs and whiskey , sometimes vodka contains. The cocktail is similar to a prairie oyster , but has fewer ingredients and contains alcohol. For this reason, it is more suitable as a "stomach painter" or to alleviate the consequences of a hangover.

Amber Moon appears in the 1974 film Murder on the Orient Express , which is based on Agatha Christie 's novel of the same name from 1934. In the film, Mr. Beddoes, played by John Gielgud , brings this drink to his employer, Mr. Ratchett, just before the murder is discovered. Beddoes knocks on the dead man's train compartment door and announces “Your Amber Moon, Mr. Ratchett.” The drink is served as a whole raw egg in a highball glass, half filled with vodka, with a spoon and a bottle of Tabasco on the side. Beddoes is later questioned about Ratchett's death by Hercule Poirot and states “He always took his Amber Moon in bed. He never got up until it was fully effective ”.
