Ambient furniture

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An Ambient furniture is an equipment article of a living room, which by its presence , but much more still changed by its function space in the perception of the residents. The classic passive functions of the furniture such as storage, work surface and seating are combined with active functions. This now includes image, sound and light, which can decisively influence the mood of a room through the creative use of electrical or electronic components.

Colors and tones in particular can thus enhance or change the mood of the residents, depending on the preferences of the user and the configuration of the furniture. As early as 1975 Brian Eno began to see music as a spatial element, as "furniture". On innovative records such as Music For Airports and Discreet Music, he staged a musique d'ameublement that surrounds the listener like a chair or table, as well as light and color. In this way, music and the objects in the environment unite to form a whole that appeals to all the senses. This idea, developed by Erik Satie in the 1920s, is consistently further developed in Ambient-Möbel through the integration of optics , haptics and interactivity .

In addition to the artistic aspects, the embedding of technology in furniture is also being promoted by information science. This concept, known as ambient intelligence , uses sensors and actuators in furniture, among other things, to surround people with networked systems. In addition to testing vital functions and facilitating human-machine interaction, this development focuses primarily on simplifying everyday tasks.

However, this type of furniture has not yet established itself commercially, so that many ideas currently only exist as individual pieces.
