The company was founded in 1990 by the siblings Alessio and Cecilia Tessieri. It regularly wins awards for its creations.
The dark Amedei Porcelana is often considered the most expensive chocolate in the world, for example in the Guinness Book of Records with around € 15 for 100 g. The light "Porcelana" cocoa beans (a subspecies of the "criollo") used here come from Venezuela ; the plants are not as disease-resistant as those of the mass-produced goods and the beans are therefore particularly expensive. The Amedei Porcelana is also used for the world's most expensive ice cream, the $ 1000 Golden Opulence Sundae .
