Amelia Patti

Amelia Patti , married Amelia Strakosch (* 1831 in Madrid ; † December 12, 1915 in Paris ) was an Italian opera singer (soprano).

Life

Amelia Patti was the eldest daughter of the Italian singers Salvatore Patti and Caterina Barili . Her siblings were the violinist and conductor Carlo , the soprano Carlotta and the famous opera singer Adelina Patti . She was trained by her mother and made her debut in 1848 at the New York Astor Opera House as Abigaille in the American premiere of Giuseppe Verdi's opera Nabucco . The following year she appeared here with her father in Gaetano Donizetti's Roberto Devereux . In 1855 she sang Maddalena in the American premiere of Verdi's Rigoletto at the Academy of Music , in which her half-brother Ettore Barili played the leading role.

Patti has sung dramatic soprano and mezzo-soprano roles on many of the major opera stages in America and Europe. In 1852 she married the composer and concert entrepreneur Maurice Strakosch , who a. a. acted as impresario for her sister Adelina. In her later years she lived in Paris, where she also gave singing lessons.
