The American Alpine Journal is an annual journal published by the American Alpine Club . The aim is to document special alpine achievements in the high mountains of the world; Subtitle: “The World's Most Significant Climbs” .
history
The journal was founded in 1929. Between 1957 and 1958, Francis P. Farquhar was the editor-in-chief. From 1960, H. Adams Carter headed the compilation of the annual issue, under his direction the AAJ became one of the world's leading mountaineering magazines. After Carter's death, Christian Beckwith took over from 1996 to 2001; and since 2002 John Harlin III has been editor-in-chief.
Content focus
In terms of content, the focus is primarily on expedition mountaineering in the high mountains of the world, with particular emphasis on Asia ( Himalayas , Karakoram ), North America (Alaska Range) and South America ( Andes ). All older articles from 1966 onwards have been available online since 2007.
