The American Oil Chemists' Society ( AOCS ) is a professional organization founded in May 1909 under the name Society of Cotton Products Analysts for chemists who deal with the chemistry of oils and fats. The name was changed to American Oil Chemists' Society in 1920. The company is based in Champaign (Illinois) . The AOCS deals with the chemistry of oils and fats, in particular bleaching methods, cellulose yield, color, fat analysis, glycerine analysis, refining, analysis of oil seeds and grist, analysis of soaps and synthetic detergents, technical safety and uniform methods. This makes it one of the most important specialist bodies dealing with oilseeds and fats from agriculture.

Publications

From 1924, the company published a magazine, the Journal of the Oil and Fat Industries . In 1927 the publication was renamed Oil and Fat Industries, 1932 Oil and Soap and from 1947 the Journal of the American Oil Chemist Society (JAOCS). The organ Inform AOCS provides the members with current information on the activities of the professional association. In addition, the AOCS publishes two magazines, Lipids and the Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society .

In addition to the specialist journal and the communication organ, the AOCS has published over 130 specialist books on the subject of oils and fats in the course of history.

Associations

The AOCS is represented in six working groups of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as an A-Liaison, i. H. the contributions are understood as effective contributions to the work of the ISO.
