American Society of Human Genetics

American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) is an American association of professionals working in the field of human genetics . It has about 8,000 members. The administrative office is located in Bethesda, Maryland .

The ASHG was founded in 1948. Franz Josef Kallmann was one of its founders , the first president was Hermann Joseph Muller . The organ of the ASHG is the American Journal of Human Genetics . The ASHG is a member of the Federation of American Societies of Experimental Biology (FASEB), the Council of Faculty and Academic Societies (CFAS) and the International Federation of Human Genetics Societies (IFHGS)

The aim of the ASHG is to make genetics knowledge generally accessible and to bundle research activities while mediating between potential investors and researchers. It organizes a symposium every year. The ASHG awards a number of science awards, including the William Allan Award and the Curt Stern Award .
