American Sociological Association
The American Sociological Association (ASA) is a society dedicated to the advancement of sociology as a discipline and professional field in the United States . It was founded under the name American Sociological Society on December 28, 1905 at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore , the initiative for this came from CWA Veditz .
The Society's first president was Lester Frank Ward , and the founding board included William Graham Sumner (first vice president), Franklin H. Giddings (second vice president) and Veditz as secretary and treasurer.
Current president is Mary Romero ( Arizona State University ). Christine L. Williams ( University of Texas at Austin ) was elected President for 2020 .
The ASA holds annual conferences and publishes several academic journals , including the American Sociological Review . With around 14,000 members (academic teachers, students, researchers, and professionals), it has the largest number of sociological professional organizations worldwide.
