Amin El Dib
Amin El Dib (* 1961 in Cairo ) is a photographer who grew up in Germany and currently lives in Switzerland .
Life
Amin El Dib was born in 1961 as the son of a German and an Egyptian in Cairo and grew up in Germany in Duisburg from 1966 .
From 1983 he studied at the Technical University of Berlin and graduated with a degree in architecture. At the same time, he began to deal intensively with photography.
Amin El Dib has been working as a freelance photographer since 1992 and shows his works in exhibitions. El Dib works in extensive groups of works that often occupy him for years, that accompany and determine his life. These include the work groups Artaud Folders, Staged Portraits, Cut Flowers Pictures, GelantineSilverLichtKarton, Under Skies of Blue and Gray, On the Fragility of Being. The thematically self-contained series of motifs, the series, determined the artistic work of Amin El Dib from the start. He photographs with an unmistakable handwriting. Showing wounds and impermanence are defining elements in his work. His subjects range from portraits to still lifes and landscapes to reflections on photography. What connects everything is the pictorial fragility of being as part of life.
He is a founding member of the Berliner Kunstverein empty room eV and since 2001 he has been a member of the German Photographic Academy .
His work is represented in renowned public collections.
He has lived and worked near Basel in Switzerland since 2003 .
