The Amir Timur Square ( Uzbek Amir Temur xiyoboni ) is a central square in the Uzbek capital Tashkent . It is named after the Central Asian military leader and conqueror Timur .

history

The square was laid out in 1882 and has been a central square in the city ever since. Over time, it has been redesigned and new buildings have been built. The square underwent major redesigns in 1994 on the occasion of the third anniversary of Uzbek independence and in 2009.

investment

The central element of the square is a large bronze statue of Timur on a horse. The statue was created by sculptor Ilhom Jabborov. Timur's motto Strength lies in justice is engraved on the base of the statue . Around the square are the Amir Timur Museum, the Hotel Uzbekistan, the University of Law, the famous Tashkent Bell Tower and the Palace of International Forums, a representative building used for international discussions and conferences. The square is also a traffic junction, from which numerous roads run. West of Amir Timur Square is another important square in the city, Independence Square.
