biography

Aamir Qayyum's family left him when he was a child and he then lived with his maternal uncle. In 2003 his uncle was murdered. The police arrested a suspect for the murder on February 28, 2004, but the suspect died in custody under unexplained circumstances and his death was officially labeled a suicide. Qayyum then fell into drug addiction.

He lived a very simple life in Lahore and made money washing cars.

He was arrested in July 2005 after a security guard watched his final murder. When the security guard called for help, an approaching passer-by seized Qayyum and a police patrol arrested him.

Traces of blood were found on Qayyum's clothing, as well as other DNA traces of the victims in his home.

Qayyum confessed to murdering 14 homeless men in his hometown. Another two people survived his attacks, seriously injured. He smashed the heads of his victims with large stones weighing 10 to 35 kilograms, which he lifted and crashed down in a fit of anger.

After his arrest, he gave as the motive for his murders that he "wanted to take revenge on society" because his uncle had been murdered. He used stones because they were simply lying on the street. Qayyum was described as a psychopath by police officers after his arrest.

A court sentenced him to death in 2006 for 13 murders because one of his victims was nowhere to be found.
