The Ammerbach is a left tributary of the Saale .

The Ammerbach rises in a side valley of the Saale near the Ammerbach belonging to Jena and named after the brook. From there it flows through Ammerbach and along Ammerbacher Strasse to the east. In the Ernst-Abbe-Siedlung, the stream is heavily straightened and reaches Rudolstädter Strasse between Lilienweg and Tulpenweg. To the east of the railroad tracks of the Saalbahn it finally flows into the Saale.
