The Ammodiscidae are a group of shell-bearing, sea-dwelling unicellular organisms from the group of foraminifera .
features
The two-chamber shells of the Ammodiscidae are agglutinated, that is, they are composed of individual particles that are taken up by the animals from the sediment . The first shell chamber , the proloculus , is round, followed by a second, tubular chamber, which is rolled up in a plane spiral . It can have irregular constrictions and the aperture is located at its end .
Systematics
The Ammodiscidae were first described as a family and superfamily by the paleontologist August Emanuel von Reuss in 1862 . They have been fossilized since the Lower Cambrian .
