Amorphus globosus
The amorphus globosus ( gr . Αμορφή amorphous , formless 'and lat . Globe , ball') is an in veterinary medicine, especially in domestic cattle occurring malformation . Instead of a normally developed fetus , a more or less spherical structure covered by hairy skin occurs , which contains parts of all three cotyledons ; the differentiation of its content can vary greatly. An Amorphus globosus is not viable due to a lack of functional organs .
Emergence
The teratological reasons for the development of an Amorphus globosus are not fully understood. The malformation is generally associated with twin pregnancy , in which an embryo does not develop normally. In two cases the karyotype of Amorphus was identical to its normally developed twin, while in another case it deviated from the normal twin, so that an emergence from dizygotic twins seems possible.
distribution
The Amorphus globosus is more common in farm animals than is generally assumed. It is most often described in cattle, but there are also case reports in goats and horses . A case of Amorphus globosus has also been described in human medicine , which was also a twin pregnancy.
