Amplification (psychology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under amplification refers to one of Carl Gustav Jung developed method of psychoanalysis . The amplification represents an extension of Sigmund Freud's dream interpretation . While in Freud's method of free association the therapist does not intervene in the client 's description of the dream, during amplification the therapist focuses attention on certain dream elements and enriches them with associative and analogous material (e.g. Mythology and Symbolism) on. This can illuminate dark experiences of the client that cannot be explained from the context of the biography alone. The method of amplification can also be applied to dealing with religious and mythological statements, since these (according to Jung's theory of the archetype ) must also be understood as expressions of the unconscious .
