Reparation Office in Saarburg

The Reparation Office is an authority of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate with its seat in Saarburg . It is responsible for the implementation of the Federal Compensation Act (BEG) and, since 1996, for processing applications under the hardship fund of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate to support victims of National Socialism . The Reparation Office reports directly to the Ministry of Finance .

history

The state of Rhineland-Palatinate expressly committed itself in its constitution to redress National Socialist injustices. The regulations and structures for reparation were placed with the Ministry of Finance and Reconstruction and reorganized in 1950. The former care centers for the victims of fascism and the Office for Reparation in the Ministry of Finance were combined with the State Office for Controlled Assets with its subordinate departments. The new State Office for Reparation and Controlled Assets in Mainz and a District Office for Reparation and Controlled Assets in Neustadt , Koblenz , Mainz and Trier were created . By the end of 1951, these were assigned subordinate offices in some city and district administrations. A foreign office was later set up in Berlin .

By 1987, a total of around 940,000 claims for compensation had been submitted to the reparation authorities of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. In order to be able to process this as quickly as possible, the number of employees in the reparation administration of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate was temporarily increased to up to 720 employees. After the processing of initial applications was completed at the end of the sixties, the number of employees was reduced and individual offices were dissolved. First the state office in Mainz and the branch office in Berlin were dissolved, later the district offices in Mainz and Neustadt, and in the mid-1980s the district office in Koblenz.

Today, the compensation office in Saarburg is solely responsible for processing compensation cases that fall under the jurisdiction of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate under the BEG. This has been in the building of the former Saarburg tax office since January 1st, 1975.

On September 1, 2014, the Reparation Office was dissolved and integrated as a branch in the State Office for Finance (formerly ZBV - Central Salary and Supply Office of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate), which was also founded at the same time.

tasks

Today, the main task of the Reparation Office is to take care of current pension cases and hardship compensation payments as well as the processing of applications as part of the healing process for persecution-related illnesses according to the Federal Compensation Act and the processing of applications according to the hardship fund of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate.
