Architecture and history

It is a multi-storey half-timbered house from the 17th century, decorated with a seat niche portal and numerous St. Andrew's crosses , serrated friezes and boat throats. It is 21 m long, 14 m wide and 16 m high and is one of the most important half-timbered buildings in the Ore Mountains.

The year of construction is named 1653. After the Thirty Years' War, the fishing property destroyed by arson was rebuilt that year and used as the Electoral Saxon official fishery on behalf of Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony . The Fischmeister of the Lauterstein Office had his seat here. He was responsible for the supervision of the not inconsiderable fishery in the Schwarzen Pockau and the Flöha in the Saxon Ore Mountains and the surrounding fish ponds. At the same time, some of the caught fish was processed here.

In 1953 - 300 years after its construction - the fishing estate was placed under state protection of monuments. From 1983 to 1993 the building was extensively renovated and refurbished. Even before the work was finally completed, the Heimat- und Mühlenverein Pockau, founded in 1991, moved into the building and used it as a club house for meetings and events. The Erzgebirgszweigverein also uses the premises of the building.

In 1996, the Pockau community library moved into the building.

The Museum Kurfürstliche Amtsfischerei presents permanent exhibitions in the building, in particular "Living like in grandmother's time", local history of Pockau-Lengefeld, rafting and charcoal making in models, lace making in the Ore Mountains. A model railway system is also set up on special occasions.

A replica of a historic clay oven, old agricultural equipment and a herb garden can be viewed on the outdoor area of the official fishery.
