Amyzon
Amyzon was an ancient city in the Caria region of Asia Minor . The ruins are located under the name Mazın Kalesi near today's village of Gaffarlar in the Koçarlı district of the Turkish province of Aydın .
Amyzon was located in the hilly country northwest of Alinda and, according to Strabo, was part of Alabanda's sphere of influence . In the Hellenistic period, the city, which was never very important, was successively allied with the Ptolemies , the Seleucids and Herakleia on the Latmos . There are some coins from this period and the Roman Empire. The titular Amyzon of the Roman Catholic Church goes back to a late antique bishopric of the city .
The archaeological remains of the city wall with a height of up to 6 m and an Artemis temple outside the city have been preserved. The French epigrapher Louis Robert carried out excavations in Amzyon.
