An Cheathrú Rua [ əˈçæːɾ̥ˠhuːˌɾˠuːə ] (old spelling (before 1945): An Cheathramhadh Ruadh , Anglicised : Carraroe or Carrowroe ) is a village on a peninsula between the bays of Cuan an Fhir Mhóir and Cuan Chasla in Galway County , Ireland . It includes the townlands of An Cheathrú Rua Thuaidh , An Cheathrú Rua Theas , Barr an Doire and An Caorán Beag . It is located in the Gaeltacht region of Connemara . The colloquial language is like in the neighboring oneCasla the Connacht dialect of Irish . Therefore only the Irish name An Cheathrú Rua has official status.

An Cheathrú Rua is famous for its boats called Galway Hookers .
