Ana Teresa Álvarez Páez (born November 19, 1969 in Jerez de la Frontera , Cádiz , Andalusia ) is a Spanish actress .

Life

Ana Álvarez, who is 1.72 meters tall, is the daughter of a philosophy professor and the oldest of five siblings.

When she was 13 the family moved to Madrid . After graduating from school, she initially planned to study journalism , but was inspired by a photographer to work as a model . She held this position for almost two years and lived temporarily in Tokyo , Athens , London and Paris .

Before her 18th birthday, she was hired for a film role and in 1987 played the female lead in the nine-minute short film Elegía . In 1988 she received her first offer for the drama Jarrapellejos , in which she only played an insignificant supporting role. Director Antonio Giménez Rico had nevertheless recognized her potential and hired her for his next film Soldadito español , in which she received a more important supporting role.

Her first female leading role was in the 1990 premiered mystery thriller El tesoro , directed by Antonio Mercero . The first major success came with the 1991 drama Don Juan en los infiernos .

In 1993 her acting career took off and the film La madre muerta , shot in the same year, was the first to be shown in German-language cinemas, where it was shown under the title Die tote Mutter . Two years later she played the leading female role in the German TV film Stirb für mich - Tod in Spanien directed by Michael Gutmann and alongside Kai Wiesinger . The film Nur noch Sex mit Laura , shot in the same year , was also shown in German-speaking cinemas.

Another success was the 1998 comedy Chachachá , on the occasion of which the Spanish magazine Dominical dedicated the cover picture and a ten-page article to the actress in its issue number 228 of August 2, 1998.

Since the early 21st century she has made fewer films and has increasingly appeared in television series: for the first time in 2001 in an episode of Estudio 1 and most recently in the two-part miniseries La memoria del agua, broadcast in 2012 .
