Ana Patricia Botín-Sanz de Sautuola O'Shea (born October 4, 1960 in Santander , Cantabria ) is a Spanish manager and chairwoman of the board of directors of Banco Santander . Until September 2014 she was CEO of Santander UK, the British branch of Banco Santander. According to a ranking by the business newspaper Financial Times Deutschland , she is considered the most influential manager in Europe, and in 2016 she was 10th on Forbes' list of most influential women .

Career

The eldest daughter of Emilio Botín , the chairman of Banco Santander, studied at Harvard Business School and Bryn Mawr College , USA. She gained her first leadership experience during her seven years at JPMorgan in the USA. She returned to Spain in 1988 and has worked in various management positions for the Santander banking group since 1989. From 1994 to 1999 she was Vice President of Bank Santander. She initiated the expansion of Banco Santander across Latin America. Until November 2010 she was President of Banesto, the Santander Group's retail bank, before taking over the management of Santander's UK business. After the death of her father, she was elected President of Banco Santander in 2014. Botín was invited to the Bilderberg Conference , a conference with influential people from business, media and politics.

Ana Botín is one of six children. Her father was Emilio Botín , president of Banco Santander. Her mother is Paloma O'Shea , a pianist to whom the Spanish king bestowed the title of "Marquesa" for her life's work. She is married to the banker Guillermo Morenes, with whom she has three children, and lives in Belgravia, London.
