Ana Maria Bican

Ana Maria Bican (born March 3, 1980 in Zărneşti ) is a former Romanian artistic gymnast .

She started gymnastics at the age of six and moved to the national gymnastics center in Deva in 1993. At the Junior European Championships in Arezzo in 1992 Bican won the gold medal with the team. At the European Junior Championships in Stockholm in 1994, she won the title in jumping and bronze in the all-around competition.

In 1994 Bican was second with the team and fourth in the horse vault at the Goodwill Games . Her greatest success came at the 1996 European Gymnastics Championships in Birmingham. With the Romanian gymnastics team with Lavinia Miloșovici , Gina Gogean and Simona Amânar , Bican was European champion ahead of Russia and Ukraine. In the same year Bican was part of the roster for the Olympic Games . She was already in Atlanta, but injured herself so badly in training before the first competition that she had to end her career.

After her competitive sports career, Bican studied French and Marketing at the University of Michigan .
