Ananías Maidana (born July 26, 1923 in Encarnación , † October 30, 2010 in Asunción ) was a Paraguayan politician .

Maidana was chairman of the Paraguayan Communist Party (PCP) from 2007 until his death . He was imprisoned for many years during Alfredo Stroessner's dictatorship . The sources are not uniform with regard to this phase of his life. The newspaper La Nacion reports 17 years imprisonment, while Ultimahora speaks of a total of 24 years imprisonment, of which 20 years without interruption in the Comisaría Tercera , where he was temporarily tortured. In 1978 he went into exile in Sweden and the Soviet Union. Here, too, Ultimahora reports contrary to the exile in Argentina. After the military coup in 1989 against Stroessner, he returned to his home country and took part in building a democratization process. In the same year he became general secretary of the PCP. He held this office until 2007. In March 2010 he was awarded the Orden de la Cruz del Defensor by the Paraguayan government , the highest non-military state honor in the country. He died of prostate cancer on October 30, 2010 at the age of 87 in the Central del IPS Hospital in Asunción .
